The current issue of the New York Times’ T Magazine features a very special photo spread: One of model Miranda Kerr, shot by her husband, Orlando Bloom. What do you think of Orlando’s photography skills?
During the seven months between December 2011 and June 2012 while Orlando was filming The Hobbit, Miranda and their baby son, Flynn, relocated to Wellington, New Zealand (fun fact: The family stayed in the house in which Orlando celebrated his 22nd birthday while shooting The Lord of the Rings). One of the most remote capitals on the planet, Wellington is 28 hours by plan from London, 23 from New York, 15 from LA, and 14 from Hong Kong and Tokyo—and as Times journalist David Amsden puts it, “it is Wellington’s physical isolation that makes it such a singular place.”
And although there are obvious perks about the situation—for example, if Miranda needed to run an errand, a production assistant drove her, no questions asked—the family was able to live more like how they did before they were stars:
“Like this, what we’re doing right now, just sitting in a park, out in public,” Miranda said, “I can’t do this anywhere else. In Los Angeles, there are people camped out in our driveway every day, waiting to follow us wherever we go.”
While they were living in New Zealand, Orlando snapped photos of his wife everywhere they went: Check out some of the shots in our gallery by clicking on the thumbnails below!
