Miranda’s an easy rider

Posted on January 29, 2009, by Debby, filed in: News(1) Comment

January 30, 2009 12:00am

SHE might be one of the world’s top models but it seems there are no diva demands from David Jones face Miranda Kerr.
While some major celebs have champagne and luxuries high on the list of “rider” requirements that they expect to be on hand when they perform, Kerr’s desires are a little more down to earth.

The Victoria’s Secret angel, who is expected back in the country next week ahead of the David Jones winter collections show on February 11, requests for everything to be el naturale.

Asking for a whole cupboard full of organic food, the Gunnedah girl’s list included organic green tea, organic peppermint tea, organic gluten-free muesli, organic almond milk and goji berries.

Among all that healthy food, Confidential is glad to see one or two treats have also been included – choc-coated goji berries as well as bars of chocolate. But even the choccie will be organic too, of course.

Kerr auctions vintage clothes

Posted on January 28, 2009, by Debby, filed in: NewsComments Off

Model Miranda Kerr has joined a long list of celebrities auctioning off vintage clothes for charity.

Kerr has offered a dress and fascinator (head dress) for the sale, while former international model Deborah Hutton donated a jacket to raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Among the many celebrities to auction clothes at the Limited Edition Vintage Perle Charity sale in the Strand in Sydney’s CBD on Wednesday night were MTV VJ Ruby Rose, former Australian netball captain Liz Ellis, Australia’s Next Top Model judge Charlotte Dawson and Tania Zaetta.

Beauty results take more than a few tips

Posted on January 28, 2009, by Debby, filed in: News(2) Comments

The gossip magazines are often gripped by a need to explain beauty – to show the routines, easy steps, diet tips, make-up transformations, exercise makeovers and celebrity trainer secrets behind the 15 or so women in the world deemed physically perfect.

Grazia’s cover story, “Miranda: How To Get her $5m Body” spells out what women need to resemble one of the top 10 earning models in the world, Miranda Kerr.

Banish hellish visions of spirit-crushing exercise because it’s never been easier to become a 25-year-old supermodel posing for Victoria’s Secret on the French Caribbean island St Barts in a bikini no bigger than a teabag. Kerr proves this in several photos.

Grazia’s tips, translated here into simple language for easy application, mean beauty in a trice.

Tip One: “Body: Side Kicks”. Anyone after a nice bottom should swing one leg to the left and the other to the right until this happens. Have plenty of time on your hands, possibly up to a year, and don’t be deterred by the difficulties of performing this groundbreaking manoeuvre while walking, working or trying to sleep. Press on!

Tip Two: “Food: Eat Good Carbs”. Basically, forget all that stuff about carbohydrates being the devil’s food. Have a few of the boring carbs but without oil or butter or memory of food that does not taste like a boiled wicker basket and you will be beautiful.

Tip Three: “Inner Glow: Get Creative”. Kerr says expressing herself creatively makes her happy. She likes to draw, get her hands muddy, and dance at home. Combining all three activities is, however, ill advised lest you remind friends and family of Farrah Fawcett, the Jennifer Aniston of the 1970s, and her ill-fated 1997 video All Of Me in which the blonde star rubbed paint over her naked body after painting a canvas.

Tip Four: “Relaxed Chic”. Expensive clothes are great but no one should overdo it. If you are wearing a $15,000 Prada gown, lighten it up with sneakers or woollen mittens or pencils wedged in your nostrils. What a wag. Ride a motorbike pillion style with your actor boyfriend sometimes as well.

Tip Five: “Go Natural”. Use make-up that is natural looking, to enhance your naturalness. The more expensive it is the less other people will notice you are wearing it. Result!

Accompanying these five tips is the sad truth. Grazia’s more in-depth article “It’s Official! Miranda is the New Body” says Kerr exercises every day, using jogging, yoga and meditation routines, and eats healthy food.

For a moment it all seemed just so easy.

The party is over as David Jones slashes launch budget

Posted on January 21, 2009, by Debby, filed in: News(2) Comments

THE champagne bottles will remain corked, the limousines cancelled and the guest list slashed by half when David Jones launches its winter collection next month.

Model Miranda Kerr will remain the star of the show, but the fashion parades in Melbourne and Sydney will be much more modest affairs this year as the department store seeks to rein in costs in the economic downturn.

With the company’s decision yesterday to sack 150 employees at its Sydney head office and to cut the hours of floor staff across the country, it was perhaps inevitable that fancy launches would be curbed too.

The cuts to the event include cancelling the after-party for models and celebrities, in a move that will reduce the event’s cost by more than half.

“I felt that it was not prudent for us to be celebrating our fashion launch in that way,” David Jones chief executive Mark McInnes said. “It will still be a spectacular show, but it will be a show and nothing else.”

Mr McInnes insisted the event, which has been shifted from the early evening to the morning, remained an important launching pad for the winter collection.

“We still have to launch our winter season, it’s the business that we’re in. We’re just doing it much more responsibly.

At rival store Myer, this year’s launch for its autumn and winter collection, to be held in Melbourne, will have between 300 and 350 guests compared with 500 last year. The company’s brand ambassador, Jennifer Hawkins, will also appear in fashion parades across the country.

The cuts to staff hours and its launch budget are part of a broad cost-cutting regime at DJs also involving shrinking travel, marketing and IT budgets.

Adding to the case for a further Federal Government stimulus package, Mr McInnes said that after two strong weeks of trading straddling Christmas, sales in recent weeks had been “particularly tough”.

Hardest hit at the department store were sales of big ticket items such as couches and bedding, while sales of cosmetics were holding up. He said the refurbishment of the Bourke Street store would not be affected by the cost cutting.
