MAN the stockades, Sydney’s store wars are due to erupt again as David Jones and Myer go head-to-head for the spring/summer 09/10 season launch.
Diary notes are expected to hit mailboxes of key celebrities, social identities and fashion media next week for David Jones’ August 4 show, with the guest list expanded to 450 to see Miranda Kerr hit the runway.
The supermodel, recently selected by Pirelli as one of the world’s 10 sexiest women, will also do in-store workshops for David Jones, upping the store’s celebrity ante.
And, in these times of economic restraint, David Jones has again eschewed the champagne and exotic canapes for a teetotal show at the Hordern Pavilion.
Not so Myer, celebrating a profit upgrade by taking a key sponsorship role for Rosemount Australian Fashion Festival.
The Myer spring summer 09/10 show will be at CarriageWorks, Redfern, on August 19, with champagne flowing.
According to Myer PR guru Mitch Catlin, there will be two drinks parties, before and after the show, featuring Jennifer Hawkins and Dannii Minogue’s squeeze, ex-footy star Kris Smith, and international models.
“And the goody bag is to die for,” boasts a cheeky Catlin. Yep, shots fired across the bow: store wars are on again.
